"Silksheen Sunset"

Handover Event

During April 2016 the handover of the auction painting "Silksheen Sunset" for the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre happened at their base at East Kirkby (Lincs), with three members of the Panton family on hand:
  • Harold Panton <One half of the founding two brothers of L.A.H.C>
  • Philip Panton <Son of the second founding brother Fred Panton>
  • Andrew Panton <Philips son and director of L.A.H.C
  • Melvin Prior <Presenter of the Breakfast show on BBC Radio Lincs>
The schedule for the afternoon was set as follows:
  • Meet members of the Panton family
  • See the 1:30pm taxi run by Avro Lancaster BVII "Just Jane"
  • Meet and interview with Melvin Prior for his breakfast show
  • Handover of the cheque to Andrew
  • Handover of painting to Lizzie and Henri
  • Get on board "Just Jane" for a guided tour
  • Various photos taken
Just Jane
Shortly before eleven in order to see the first taxi run (thankfully the rain stopped during this run). Then around midday, the winning bidder Lizzie and her husband Henri arrived. They were signed into the centre and introduced to Andrew Panton.

After a cuppa and a chat, it was time to pop outside and see the 1:30pm taxi run, which miraclously happened in dry conditions (what a sight and sound, the Lancaster never fails to make the hairs on the back on my neck stand up).

During the taxi run, Melvin Prior from BBC Radio Lincs breakfast show arrived. He interviewed Lizzie & Henri, Andrew and myself about the painting, the centre and Just Jane. After the interview which should be aired soon, I`ll link to it as soon as it`s confirmed, Melvin took a number of photos of us with the painting with Just Jane as the backdrop, then Melvin had to pop off for another interview during the afternoon.

The official handover of the cheque to Andrew and the painting to Lizzie & Henri with myself with and without Just Jane as the backdrop was then carried out (ahead of any rain)

Lizzie had seen the auction painting on my stall at the L.A.H.C nightrun and fireworks event at the end of the events calender in 2015 and had been "Stopped in my tracks..." and decided to add her bid, one of three on this day.
During the late afternoon, Henri and Lizzie were invited on board Just Jane for a VIP guided tour care of L.A.H.C volunteer Martin Keen. Henri accepted and got shown round the interior of a "live" Avro Lancaster BVII, from the tail to the nose.

With the tour on board completed, the afternoon`s event was over and we bid farewell to Andrew and all at Lincs Aviation Heritage Centre...what a great day, the weather tried it`s best to ruin, but failed.

Many thanks to Andrew Panton for allowing me to put the event together and allowing access to their wonderful aircraft, Martin Keen for the VIP guided tours and getting us an interesting vantage point for the second taxi run. And finally, Henri and Lizzie for bidding and winning the signed auction painting, their contribution will go towards Just Jane`s return to flight.

If you have not been to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, make 2016 the year that you do, you will not be disappointed. Check their website on my links page for details of taxi runs and special events...let`s get this piece of aviation history airborne again.
